Fujifilm's "Instax" Camera Series Surpasses 100 Million Sales Worldwide

Fujifilm Corporation announced on Tuesday that the unit sales of their "instax" instant camera line have surpassed 100 million units. The brand, which has been around for approximately three decades, continues to attract attention domestically and internationally, even as they introduce new versions of these cameras.

In 1998, the inaugural model of the instax camera was introduced, quickly gaining popularity particularly amongst younger individuals. Despite the shift towards conventional digital and subsequently smartphone photography, this range persisted due to its distinctive feature of immediate photo printouts — an appealing throwback for many enthusiasts.

For the period up to March 2024, sales hit an all-time high of approximately 150 billion yen ($1 billion). The company stated that their products were sold across more than 100 countries and regions, with over 90 percent of their total income coming from international markets.

Fujifilm is broadening its range of products to include compact, portable models alongside devices designed to print photographs from smartphones directly onto instax film. In Japan, instax cameras find use across different occasions like travels, gatherings, and even wedding celebrations.
