Webfoot Octopus Chase: Yoo Jaeseok's One-Shot Camera Adventure

"What are you doing when you play?" Yoo Jae-seok commandeered the spotlight with a single shot from the camera.

On the 12th, MBC broadcasted "What Are You Doing When You Play?" where they featured a segment titled 'I Caught It,' showcasing the members attempting to capture the web-foot octopus from the previous season. This episode not only amused audiences with the web-foot octopus but also kept them entertained through various comedic moments.

Why bother with that particular day? The main metric showing the channel’s competitive edge and popularity for '2049' stood at 2.2%, placing it as number one across all entertainment programs on Saturdays. In terms of household ratings within the Seoul metropolitan region, these figures climbed up to 4.7%. The peak moment came when the show featured the cast savoring their self-caught webfoot octopuses. Specifically, Lee Yeon-bok's Mara brand webfoot octopus alongside Jung Ho-young's golden rice cooker pushed the numbers up to 5.4% each minute. (Nielsen Korea provided the metro-area data.)

Lim Woo-il joined as a guest to search for webfoot octopuses together. Yoo Jae-seok joyfully played tricks, mentioning, "Woo-il has come to hunt the webfoot octopus." The group planned to visit a nearby convenience store to satisfy their hunger but ended up adding various non-food items to their cart besides groceries. This brought the bill to a sum of 140,000 won, with Park Jin-joo being chosen to cover the cost. Meanwhile, Lim Woo-il found amusement in Yoo Jae-seok’s jesting about having to venture out during low tide.

Initially, the crew of the Webfoot Octopus Boat was split. From the start, Joo Woo-jae, Lee Yi-kyung, and Park Jin-joo took turns catching Webfoot octopuses enthusiastically. Overcome by seasickness earlier, Lee Yi-kyung found renewed vigor upon tasting the catch. Meanwhile, Park Jin-joo boosted morale further by belting out a traditional work song. Impressed by their haul’s impressive size, Joo Woo-jae marveled as he watched what seemed like unusually large specimens they believed might actually be octopi.

On the contrary, Yoo Jae-seok, Ha-ha, Mi-joo, and Lim Woo-il felt deeply disappointed as their attempt to catch a web-footed octopus did not succeed initially. However, during their relocation and continued efforts at fishing, they managed to land a web-footed octopus right into Yoo Jae-seok’s grasp. Proudly holding onto this prized catch, Yoo Jae-seok reveled in sharing news about his win from what seemed like an ongoing string of victories at Wolchuk Lake; he enthusiastically remarked how delightful it was to successfully reel these creatures in. Seeing Yoo Jae-seok bask in glory after such immediate success, Ha-ha grew envious and decided to claim his turn too, suggesting they should rotate opportunities fairly among themselves. Meanwhile, observing the competitive dynamics between Yoo Jae-seok and Ha-ha over seizing every chance quickly, Lim Woo-il interjected irritably stating perhaps now would be wise for everyone involved to lay off momentarily—especially considering all that could be seen in the aft section were merely vacant shells devoid of content. In reaction to this tension-filled exchange, Yoo Jae-seok graciously yielded his spot near the front end to accommodate Lim Woo-il instead. Following suit, Mi-joo then seized another opportunity herself using the captured specimen, thereby concluding their session dedicated solely towards catching those elusive web-footed octopuses.

Nevertheless, Ha-ha, unlike the web-footed octopus which got a chance at a single attempt, held the hose and began cleaning the boat. Soon after, another round of the one-shot challenge commenced. This time around, Yoo Jae-seok seized the opportunity with his usual determination. Listening to the grievances from the newer team members, he quivered as he remarked, "Stars occasionally must go through these experiences," whereas Ha-ha retorted sarcastically, "Why are you so hungry for camera time?"

The freshly caught web-footed octopus, which the group managed to procure, was transformed into a distinctive delicacy by Chef Jeong Ho-young. Meanwhile, Lee Yeon-bok showcased his prowess with swift hand gestures, presenting a variety of Chinese-inspired web-footed octopus dishes such as Lajo web-footed octopus, Mara web-footed octopus, and web-footed octopus jjamppong. Jung Ho-young crafted an exquisite spread inspired by Japan’s cuisine featuring grilled marinaded web-footed octopus skewers alongside stir-fried web-footed octopus cooked in shabu-shabu style, all served over steaming gold pots filled with fragrant rice. The culinary battle between Lee Yeon-bok and Jung Ho-young using their signature web-footed octopus preparations provided everyone with great entertainment. Lim Woo-il, adorned with pigtail wigs, played the role of Ha-ha's young daughter, Song-yi, performing a mesmerizing destructive mukbang performance. He then used leftover portions of the web-footed octopus to amuse both himself and others around him.

In the meantime, MBC's "What Are You Doing When You Play?" broadcasts every Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
