Shein Boosts Use of Deadstock Fabric by 40% Globally in 2024

This initiative is a component of SHEIN's evoluSHEIN plan.

Shein has increased its utilization of deadstock materials, integrating more than 28,000 meters of leftover fabrics into its designs for this year, marking a 40% rise from the 19,000 meters employed in 2023.

According to data provided by Aloqia (previously known as Queen of Raw), a circular economy platform backed by MIT Solve, this initiative has conserved approximately 200,000 cubic meters of water, more than 4,000 kilograms of chemicals, and reduced CO2e emissions by 42 metric tons.

By incorporating additional pre-existing materials into our supply chain, we are embracing feasible and expandable strategies designed to reduce wastage," stated Mustan Lalani, the Worldwide Director of Sustainability at SHEIN. "This method allows us to provide top-notch products and cutting-edge ideas to our clients, all while fostering a more cyclical and efficient textile industry.

In 2022, Shein began sourcing more than 47,900 meters of unused fabrics via Aloqia, which resulted in an approximate reduction of 357,600 cubic meters of water usage, 7,400 kilograms of chemical consumption, and 70 metric tons of CO2e emissions.

In 2024, Shein introduced the evoluSHEIN x Anitta line, which includes creations from eight independent designers utilizing deadstock materials and RecynTec™, a fabric derived from recycled textiles.

In 2023, the Shein X Rescued line featured creations crafted exclusively from leftover materials.

This initiative is part of Shein's evoluSHEIN plan, which aims at incorporating eco-friendly materials and minimizing ecological footprint.
