How a Super Eagles Legend Pleaded with NFF for Payment After 19 Years of Service

  • Information has come to light regarding the support provided by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), previously known as NFA, for the late Christian Chukwu.
  • The AFCON champion coached the Nigeria national squad between 2002 and 2005, earning a bronze medal at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations.
  • The ex-Super Eagles team leader died at 74 due to a long battle with an illness in his birthplace on Saturday morning.

Christian Chukwu fervently appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to resolve his outstanding three-year salary, which accrued under Ibrahim Galadima’s presidency of the NFA.

Several years back, ex-NFF President Amaju Pinnick approved the settlement of the former Super Eagles team captain's medical expenses.

Femi Otedola, the Nigerian billionaire who admires the ex-captain of Enugu Rangers, expressed his backing for this soccer icon.

Late Chukwu requested outstanding salary payments

The former Super Eagles mentor, Christian Chukwu, expressed disappointment that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was yet to settle his unpaid wages.

As reported by the BBC, Chukwu guided Nigeria to win a bronze medal at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations throughout his three-year term.

The AFCON champion asserted that the NFF owes him more than $120,000 dating back to 2006.

The ex-Technical Director of Enugu Rangers also mentioned that this kind of treatment would certainly not have been experienced by foreign coaches previously. He stated:

I find it frustrating that despite my significant effort, the folks at the NFA haven't been able to determine how to resolve the payment they owe me.
I've attempted multiple approaches via letters, phone calls, and trips to the NFA office, yet I haven't received any response from the officials.
The previous time, they guaranteed that they would investigate the issue thoroughly."
I find it extremely frustrating and irritating to be handled like this; I'm quite certain a foreign coach wouldn’t face such treatment.

At that time, the president of the NFA was Ibrahim Galadima, serving from 2002 to 2006 until Sani Lulu succeeded him according to Sportsration.

NFF mourns Chukwu

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed sorrow over the death of AFCON-winning player Christian Chukwu.

As stated by the NFF, Chukwu is the eighth person from the 1980 AFCON championship-winning squad who has sadly passed away.

The NFF Secretary General, Mohammed Sanusi, indicated that the 74-year-old individual will continue to serve as an inspiration for upcoming generations of Super Eagles defenders and captains. He mentioned this fact.

We have mourned the loss of an exceptional individual. Chukwu embodied the essence of a robust, committed, and principled leader both on and off the playing area.
He didn't earn the nickname 'Chairman' without reason. He represented power, foresight, and steadfastness.
