Throat Slashed: Hawker’s Goods Stolen as Chaos Erupts in Abuja

Apparently, one of the two men who approached a street vendor as potential buyers slashed the vendor's throat and escaped with his merchandise without making payment.

The Abuja Metro learned that the incident occurred on Wednesday morning at Gate 1 in Dutse-Alhaji town within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The victim, identified as Babangida Abdullahi (25), was reportedly selling waist belts in the area when the event took place.

Talking to Abuja Metro from his bedside at Kubwa General Hospital on Thursday, the victim recounted how he was accosted by the two individuals who feigned interest as potential buyers before asking to purchase the belts from him.

One of them took one of my belts valued at N1500 and put it in his pocket. When I questioned him about this, he declined to return the belt to me and also didn’t make payment for it.

He proceeded to take out a sharp instrument from his pocket, cutting me around the neck, then escaped by running across the expressway.

A health official who was on duty informed our correspondent that the victim was transported to the hospital by a police officer. The official also mentioned that a surgical procedure was performed on the victim’s neck, focusing on the veins near the arterial region of the throat.

The health authority additionally lamented that until then, nobody had come forward claiming to be a member, family member, or acquaintance of the victim. As a result, they have been left to bear the cost themselves for purchasing injections, medications, and various other medical supplies.

In response, Dr. Emmanuel Musa, the Chief Medical Director at the hospital, stated that they would devise a plan to attend to the victim and locate their next of kin.
